The meetings theme was – “The Importance of Voting.”
The meeting was opened with Lancaster County Councilman Jose Luis
remembering Corey Comperator, whose life was tragically cut short at the attempted assassination of President Trump, as well as those injured.
He also reminded us of the writers and signers of the U.S. Constitution, who in many cases made the “Ultimate Sacrifice,” to protect their families and preserve the promise of the United States which we still have and should NEVER BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED.
Donald J. Trump accepts nomination to be the 47th President of the United States of America and asks for our votes.
Many question the importance of voting and even if it really matters. IT DOES!!
At this meeting we discussed that when President Trump first announced his candidacy from the Escalator in 2016, many said he had NO CHANCE. Especially the media.
They were Wrong. He WON, and then preceed to change America and the world.
He improved the U.S. economy, made American Energy Independent, didn’t start any wars (as many predicted he would), achieved a peace deal between Israel and Egypt, lowered U.S. unemployment, raised the income level and employment level of every sector of the economy, and much more.
One of the most consequential changes was the appointment of “Conservative Judges” to the U.S. Supreme Court and many lower U.S. Courts as well.
These appointments appear to be making a change in the direction of our country.
Recent Supreme Court rulings may show changing of direction.
– Trump vs. United States ( Docket #23-939) – Presidental Immunity
Ruling Presidents do have absolute immuntiy from criminal prosecution …for all
offiical acts. No immunity for unofficial acts.
– Fischer vs. United States (Docket #23-5572) – “Insurrection Clause”
Ruled the DOJ improperly used a law when charging the January 6th defendents.
– Loper Bright Enterprises vs. Raimondo (Docket #22-451) – The Chevron Case
Cut back the power of Federal Agencies to interpret the laws they administer and that courts should rely on their own interpretation of ambiguous laws. This decision reverses a previous court ruling from 40 years ago.
– Grants Pass vs. Johnson (Docket # 23-175) – Cities enforcing anti-camping bans.
Does Not violate the Eighht Amendment probibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
One justice’s opinion read:
“The Constitution…does not authorize federal judges to wrest those rights and
responsibilities from the American people and in their place dictate this nation’s
homelessness policy.”
Current Issue’s in Federal Courts and Congress:
Title IX – updates and challenges
President Biden introduced New Rules, effective August 1, 2024
Federal Courts Block Title IX changes in 14 States –
26 States are challenging the Biden administration rules changing the current law.
South Carolina is one of these states.
SAVE ACT – “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility.”
Would require “Proof of Citizenship in order to register to vote in Federal Elections.”
Passed the U.S. House of Representatives, July 10, 2024, 221 to 198.
All Republicans and five Democrats voted for the bill.
The U.S. Senate and President Biden appear Not To Be In Favor.
More to follow….
Senator Marco Rubio – recently discussed Cuban refuges who came here 40 years ago, how they became contributing members of American Society, earned Social Security benefits and in many cases are getting less in Social Security benefits than illegals and other immigrants are receiving today and for far less effort just because they are refugees.
“Makes No Sense…”
At the meeting were:
Lancaster Councilmen: Jose Luis and Terry Graham
Lancaster County School Board Vice Chair: Melvin M. Stroble, Sr.
They addressed many questions from the members and were able to give us more information about what has occurred and is currently happening in Lancaster County and Indian Land.
