Meet the Candidates night…
The meeting was opened with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance with a special note about
National Police Week (May 11 – 17) and remembering those in Law Enforcement as well as all First Responders for their service and sacrifices.
The meeting was called “Meet the Candidates” to meet the candidates in the primary on the Republican ticket. There was some disappointment that other candidates were not invited. This was on purpose as the primaries are only about party positions in which there are more than one person running. If only one person is running (within the party) they will in fact be the party candidate running in November.
This month the original plan was to invite all the Republican candidates who had opposition in their run for the primary, on June 11th.
It was interesting in that only two positions within our members voting districts have challengers.
Lancaster County Council seat representing District 7
Brian Carnes current representative
Jarrika Coutchure is the challenger
South Carolina Senate representing Senate District 17
This seat is currently held by a Democrat and in the primary, there are three people running in the primary to represent the Republican Party in the November election.
The three candidates are:
Tibi Czentye, Tripp McCoy and Everett Stubbs
All five of the candidates mentioned were invited to attend the meeting.
The meeting started with a focus on the election process, including a 6-minute video on what is a Republic, and why the founders formed the new country as Repulic vs. a Democracy.
Election Integrity –
It was also mentioned – again, that it appears that under U.S. Federal Law, states are
NOT ALLOWED to ask for proof of Citizenship in order to vote in Federal Elections.
Those registering to vote only have to “Attest,” that they are citizens, under potential perjury prosecution, if caught lying.
NEWS UPDATE !!!
South Carolina Elections Commission – just recently updated the election webpage at scvotes.gov regarding, confirmation of voter Citizenship.
Please go to scvotes.gov and scroll to the bottom of the page.
The two updates are:
Statement from SEC on Addressing Recent Concerns Over Non-U.S. Citizens Registering to Vote in South Carolina – April 30, 2024
Law Enforcement Findings Support S.C. Election Integrity –
May 17, 2024
County Council considering a NEW 1% transportation tax –
in addition to the proposed school bond and possible increase in property taxes.
A new potential tax was brought up in the last County Council meeting (held the 2nd & 4th Mondays of every month), which is open to the public. This potential New Tax was discussed and was finally put on hold for further discussion. As more citizens are attending the Council meetings and more citizen are sending input through letters and emails, it appears to affect how quickly agenda items are discussed and thought about.
If you would like to know about possible changes in local taxes, plans for rezoning, etc.,
BEFORE CHANGES ARE MADE, you should plan on attending some of the meetings. If you would like to attend County Council meetings and / or be part of a group that can share information and potentially take turns attending, please contact us at www.indianlandrepublicans.com and we will see about organizing a group of concerned citizens to do so.
Remember that Primary Voting is June 11th and early voting starts May 28th.
For Specific information on your polling places and candidates if any, in the primary please go to
SCVOTES.GOV. At the bottom of the page, you will see a section titled GET My Sample Ballot.
Once clicked on, enter your county, first and last name, DOB, and the last four numbers of your social security number and click “I’m not a robot.” Then follow the prompts.
IMPORTANCE OF THE PRIMARY:
Primaries typically have the LOWEST Turnout yet; many consider this the most important election.
Why – this determines who in fact will represent the party in the November election.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU VOTE and remember Government is Run by Those That SHOW UP!
The typical turnout in a National Election is only about 50% or slightly higher of registered voters. Many eligible voters do not register. VOTING MATTERS!!!
Speaking with neighbors, yelling at the television or radio does nothing to change things…
Please make sure you are informed and VOTE!
Finally – Logic and Accuracy Testing of the voting machines.
This is a required pre-election test to ensure that voting equipment and ballots to be used in an upcoming election can properly display the ballot, collect votes and tabulate results.
This test will be at the Lancaster Voter Registration office, on June 5th at 10am.
The public is invited to observe the testing and if you would like to attend please call Ken Beck or go to our website at www.indianlandrepublicans.com and use the Contact Us link,
by touching the upper left hand corner of the home page.
If you are interested, we will get back to you shortly.
Next month’s meeting is Thursday, June 20 and be an open meeting to review and discuss the results of the primary election and more. There will also be open discussion about anything members would like to discuss including the upcoming November Election. No Guest Speaker is scheduled.e et dolore magna aliqua.
